Why Did You Want to Become a Dentist?

As already stated, Dr. Dan was lucky enough to watch his father serve this amazing community for several years, which gave him plenty of valuable insight into the world of dentistry. In particular, he always looked forward to watching Dr. Maurer do lab work when he was a young boy. When Dr. Dan was midway through his undergraduate degree at Trinity, he directly shadowed both his father and Dr. Terry Hoerner, and that time gave him the final push he needed to pursue this career for himself. Several years later, he stills feels entirely confident that it was the right decision! As a true people person, his love of this work grows more every day.

Where Did You Study
Dentistry?

Dr. Dan achieved his dental doctorate at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. During that time, he interned at several public health clinics around Colorado, including the Salud Health Clinics in Commerce City and here in Longmont. Following graduation, he has attended various conferences and pursued continuing education whenever possible, including advanced courses from the Engel Institute and the Dental Practice Masters Online School.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Dan married his best friend Tanna in 2018. They recently welcomed their first child, Tinley Jo Maurer, on September 11th, 2020 and also have two young dogs that keep them busy named Kona (a Boxer) and Lilo (a French Bulldog). As a Colorado native, he spends plenty of free time outdoors, playing golf at several of the Longmont golf courses and learning to snowboard at Eldora. He also enjoys fly fishing and hiking around Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as playing basketball at the Longmont Rec Center. He and his wife really enjoy watching sports at the Pumphouse Brewery, going to plays at Jesters Diner Theatre, and playing in the Wibby Brewery Corn Hole League. They recently joined the Quarters Skee Ball League too! Supporting local businesses is an important priority for Dr. Dan, and he can’t wait to get back to doing more of it when the pandemic is over.
